Mustang World Series commences in Youngsville, Louisiana

The 24th annual Mustang World Series returns to Youngsville, Louisiana tomorrow for the fourth-straight year, as the world’s premiere Mustang 10U teams from all over the globe compete over four days to determine a world champion of PONY Baseball.

The City of Youngsville and the Youngsville Sports Complex will host the eight participating teams for a Breakfast of Champions at 9 a.m. CT/US. At 4:30 p.m., fans at the Youngsville Sports Complex will welcome the competing international and U.S. teams for the event’s annual Opening Ceremonies.

The games then begin at 6 p.m. CT/US with double headers going on both fields. In Game #1, North Zone Representative Southwest Lexington, Kentucky takes on Asia-Pacific Zone Champion Manila, Philippines. The Philippines were the premiere squad at the three-team Mustang Asia-Pacific Zone Championships in Tanauan City, Philippines in mid-June. The team beat Hanoi, Vietnam 20-2 and Jakarta, Indonesia 16-0, before defeating Jakarta again in the championship game 20-1.

In Game #2, South Zone Champion Castroville (Medina Valley), Texas battles East Zone Champion Wilmington (Winter Park), North Carolina. At the South Zone Championships in Deer Park, Texas last weekend, Castroville went 2-0 in pool play, outscoring its opponents 17-5, prior to winning two one-sided games in bracket play Saturday. Castroville beat Ft. Worth, Texas 27-5 and the South Texas Broncos 8-2, before winning in the semifinals Sunday 9-4. The team then defeated Eagle Pass, Texas 19-11 to win the title. At the four-team East Zone Championships in Chesterfield, Virginia last weekend, Wilmington won its three-games en route to its second-consecutive East Zone title. After winning a nail biter Friday 6-5 over host Chesterfield, Winter Park won 13-9 over Bronx, New York in the championship game.

Additionally, the first of two Champions League Games at the Mustang World Series begins at 6 p.m. CT/US Friday. The second will commence Saturday at the same time.

Following the two early games, day one will round out with two more games scheduled for 8 p.m. CT/US.

In Game #3, Caribbean Zone Champion Yaguate, Dominican Republic is pitted against Mexico Zone Champion Tijuana, Baja California. It is the first time that a team from the Dominican Republic has ever participated in the Mustang World Series. Meanwhile, Tijuana returns after finishing as the 2017 Mustang World Series finalist. Tijuana is seeking the first-ever Mustang World Series title for Mexico.

In the final game of day one (Game #4), Host Youngsville, Louisiana is set to face West Zone Champion Placentia, California. First-time Mustang World Series participant Placentia is seeking to bring the trophy back to the West Zone for the third-consecutive year. A California team has won the last five out of six Mustang World Series titles. Placentia used its high-powered offense to win four-consecutive games at the Mustang West Zone Championships in Los Alamitos last weekend. It scored 55 runs in four games, including a 13-1 victory over Fountain Valley, California in the title match.

The Mustang World Series championship game is slated for 6 p.m. CT/US Monday.
